This is the first speaker announcement for CRA’s 8th Annual Risk Forum: ‘Next Generation Risk Analysis’.
Speaker: Anders Olsson, Lloyd’s Register
Topic: Initiators and All Barriers: a dynamic method for all PSAs
Overview: This presentation* introduces Initiators and All Barriers (I&AB), a method developed by EDF (Electricité de France) and currently being implemented in RiskSpectrum. This process has the advantage that it can use the information in the existing PSA model with very limited change, with the mere addition of repair rates for repairable components. I&AB significantly improves the ability to handle repairs during a sequence. Inherent to the method is the ability to study a time window (after an initiator event) relevant for the system to come to a stable state, and not a standard “transient time” as in current PSA methodology.
One specific area where the method would be very useful is in studies of scenarios with long grace times. A demonstration of the system will be given concerning risk for fuel damage in the fuel pool.
* Marc Bouissou at EDF is a co-author of the paper that this presentation will be based on.
