Allan recently joined Corporate Risk Associates (CRA) as a Principal Consultant.
Allan has spent over 15 years supporting the safe operation of civil nuclear power plants in the UK. Allan has worked both within a UK licensee, in operations, and as a consultant in the production of safety cases and various technical assurance activities.
Work delivered by Allan includes a fleetwide strategy paper (Advanced Gas-cooled Reactors (AGRs) and Sizewell B (SZB)) for the management of phase imbalance faults for EDF Energy.
Allan has also led the fleetwide review of Licence Condition 34 (LC34) compliance arrangements and has authored and verified numerous safety case submissions, primarily in support of the UK AGR fleet.
Allan has also supported New Nuclear Build in the production of Licence Summary Statements (design modifications) and in the review of commissioning arrangements.
Additionally, he has supported the optioneering and concept studies for large investment projects, including concept and feasibility studies and the assessment of risk through As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP) and hazards in construction studies. Allan’s experience spans the full project life cycle from concept studies, through detailed design, implementation, commissioning and operation.
This breadth of experience has more recently been used to undertake research in the area of advanced safety case methodology as part of the larger Nuclear Innovation Programme, commissioned by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS).
Allan is an Incorporated Engineer with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
