What is the CRA Training Academy?

  • The CRA Academy provides a programme of engagement to help develop qualified and experienced personnel in the nuclear sector.
  • This will be achieved through a structured approach to learning and development tailored to individual needs.
  • It provides a way of accelerating knowledge and experience through a curated development framework.

Central Mechanisms

The Academy will develop around three central mechanisms for learning and development:

Formal tuition – course or module-based learning

CRA Academy days and eLearning modules are being organised to establish a routine mechanism for Academy members to access a structured programme of module-based learning. Members are encouraged to be familiar with any pre-read material such that the live sessions can be more interactive and stimulating.

The Academy day modules will be developed to provide an engaging introduction to the topic for the less experienced, and revision sessions for those that need to top-up their awareness and understanding.

In addition, longer-form training and a selection of external training courses will be identified and made available where specific specialist education is required.

On-the-job training

Learning through experience will run at the core of the Academy. Members will be encouraged to consolidate formal tuition-based learning through real world application.

Co-ordination with the CRA Academy will help identify and structure opportunities where knowledge and skills can be nurtured, and competence demonstrated. It is important that member goals, objectives and aspirations are understood such that on-the-job learning opportunities can be developed.

Where is it not possible for members to provide direct support to live projects, they may be given time to shadow work being undertaken to learn from others where applicable.

Mentoring

It is recognised that everyone needs support and guidance irrespective of grade. Nobody can know everything, and recognising your own weaknesses is a strength and recognising when to ask for help and advice is actively encouraged.

We are fortunate at CRA to have industry recognised expertise available to hand to help guide and mentor Academy members.

The Academy, and your individual Pathway to success will help provide a structured mechanism for you to engage with one or more Mentors who will support you in your development.
