Topic: Scanning a Seascape Today and Tomorrow
Overview: Goal based regulations and principles help horizon scanning as technologies change. The electronic tools which are evolving to integrate management information allow improved risk based regulatory intervention. Big data is approaching and simple governance questions are needed to cope with increasingly complex organisations and systems today and in the future.
This presentation will also detail progress of a paper delivered at ESREL17.
Allan Bain is a chartered engineer who graduated from Glasgow University with a BSc in Naval Architecture. This was followed by an MSc in Defence Acquisition Management from Cranfield University. Allan has had a meteoric progression in MOD working in Safety Management. He is currently the Chief of Staff for the Defence Maritime Regulator.
Allan is also a Council Member of SaRS ( the Safety and Reliability Society) and a Formal Safety Assessments Advisor for the Royal Institution of Naval Architects.
