World Science Day is celebrated annually on 10 November. To mark this year’s occasion, CRA consultants Dr Catherine Cassai and Donal Gallagher visited a primary school local to CRA’s Birchwood Park office. Catherine shares her thoughts and insights on the visit via the post below.
Earlier this month Donal and I attended a local primary school to present a physics talk as part of World Science Day. We decided to talk about Light – from Bonfires to Lasers. It was great fun engaging with the children and they asked us plenty of questions. We got amazing feedback from both the children and the teachers, and Donal even got a special mention from one child in the school’s weekly newsletter.
I have to add that it was utterly exhausting! The enthusiasm shown for learning about something new was such a pleasure to see and we are looking forward to doing it again (but maybe not for a few months).
And finally a big thank you to the Institute of Physics for having such great resources available. If anyone is interested in engaging with their local school I would recommend that you check out their website for lots of topics and ideas.
