CRA's fifth annual Risk Forum took place on the 17th and 18th of September 2014 at the beautiful Hellidon Lakes resort, Northamptonshire. The Forum has quickly established itself as an essential event in the risk analysis conferences calendar, and attracts speakers and participants from across the UK, Europe and worldwide. Over the two days, more than 150 participants attended the event.
The Forum brings together risk analysis, human factors and safety case professionals, and again proved to be an enjoyable and insightful event. The Forum demonstrates CRA’s commitment to share knowledge and to help with the continued professional development of participants.
Jasbir Sidhu, CEO of CRA, chaired the event and his welcome message included an introduction to the new branding of CRA. Jas went on to explain CRA’s vision to expand their service offering and to deliver these services to a broader range of industries and sectors.
This year's theme was ‘What lies behind the numbers?’. There were many inspiring speakers from the nuclear, oil and gas and rail industries, all speaking from a risk management point of view. The speakers included:
Vihn Dang, The Paul Sheerer Institute, Switzerland
Barry Kirwan, EUROCONTROL
Grant Hudson and Dave Glenhill, Cavendish Nuclear
Dr Carol Marsh, Women’s Engineering Society
Dr Shane Turner, Office of Nuclear Regulation
Karl Fleming, KNF Consulting Services LLC
Mohamed Hibti, EDF France
Andrew Buchan, Sellafield and President of SaRS
Hélène Pesme and Quentin Baudard, EDF France
Ashraf El Shanawany, CRA and Imperial College
David Sanderson, MMI Engineering
Huw Gibson, Railways Standards and Safety Board
The Open Discussion and Questions and Answers sessions were lively and encouraged excellent debate, whilst the breakfast, coffee, lunch and dinner breaks provided an opportunity to meet fellow professionals and to share ideas.
We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the sixth Risk Forum - Risk Analysis in an Uncertain World - which will be held on the 16th and 17th September at Ardencote Manor Hotel near Warwick.
